More than One Life

In the pro-life arguments, it can be heard: ‘One dead, one wounded.’ In the religious realm, it could be said: ‘One dead, many deadened.’ That is because an abortion is a serious matter that drives any divine Life out of the souls* who participate in the action. It is a sure, quick and ‘convenient’ way to ruin the lives of all participants (see Saint Matthew 16:24–26, RSVCE).

A way back for such souls is to be baptised (if not already baptised) and confirmed, thereby becoming initiated as Catholic. They can then receive the Sacrament of the most holy Eucharist (that is, holy Communion). If already validly baptised, the Sacrament of Penance (that is, Confession) would happen at the beginning. Both Sacraments of Baptism and of Penance, when properly received, will wipe away all serious (that is, mortal) sins, as well as the lesser venial sins.

Those converted souls can now completely start again and begin to build up themselves upon a foundation of sanctifying Grace. But ultimately, many people who have been initiated into the evil way of abortion will never come back from it.

* To have committed a mortal sin, the matter must be serious, the actor must have had full knowledge that it is a serious matter, and he or she must have given full consent to the action. Any one or two of these conditions being absent, the person has committed a venial sin.
